Company Accent on Education, Inc. founded in 1999 with a pilot entrepreneurial development program to assist in the development of micro-businesses. The pilot program became a fully funded endeavor that expanded into other cities. We were successful in obtaining funding from private foundations to expand the program beyond those who lived inside the original jurisdiction. We forged partnerships with other agencies to provide well-rounded entrepreneurial support systems for the hundreds of new business owners in our programs. Accent on Education and Harris County Community Development were the recipients of the National Association of Counties (NaCo) award for Innovative Programs in 2002. Our director is also the recipient of the Woman Champion in Business Award from the Houston Small Business Administration (SBA) in 2006.
In 2000, we expanded our services to develop and manage a family literacy program in the Houston Independent School District. The successful parenting programs we developed and managed enabled us to receive the sole-source contract to provide an expanded family literacy program servicing 93 public and private schools in Houston.
The 2007 - 2008 METRO Rail Expansion project brought a new level of program development to Accent on Education. As a sub-contractor with URS Washington Division, we provided project management, business development and construction trades training to Small Business Enterprises (SBEs) in the Houston Metropolitan area.
Since 2008 we continue to provide project management training to engineering, architectural, and construction companies.
